bikkuri, i was sitting outside in the sun and all of a sudden, it started snowing again. my fur was nice and warm and now i have to dry it again on top of the heater. i am from japan so i am not used to all this snow.

RAYS of INSPIRATION

it is interesting for me to realize time after time how inspiration works for me. when at home (meaning in western europe), i often feel dull and uninspired. to get inspiration i need to look at life as i SEE it in a very abstract fashion, i need to pull it apart, to push it to the edge so i can sqeeze out some inspirational drops. like a dry lemon that needs some hard sqeezing to leave some juice.

when i am outside this environment wondering around in foreign lands, the contrast is big enough that i can just look at ease and get inspiration anywhere i look. it is so relaxing to be inspired all the time. i realized that again in december when i came back from a month in japan. back in holland i hit a really dry streak of ZERO INSPIRATION again. little by little it is giving way to some rays of inspiration mixed with some fresh tea, coffee and some apple pie (with whipped cream).

PROHIBITED

just came across this photo that i took last year in rotterdam at the harbor. i guess these days it would be difficult to take the same photo again because it seems like the harbor is strongly guarded against any kind of criminals/terrorists these days which means, it is hard to take photos anywhere.

actually, about a month ago i was stopped by police because i was taking photos close to the ministery of justice here in the hague. wrote down my name and everything and said: "if someone places a bomb here in the future, we will contact you !" WHAAAT? i couldnt believe it. i mean, the hague houses so many embassies and ministeries i guess it will be difficult to take photos in a location that isn't close to some important building. what a sad state of affairs i have to say. feeling so restricted these days.

my mom was walking close to the american embassy last year and was looking in her purse for her car keys. right away a policeman came and asked her what she was looking for ... ridiculous.

TAIHEN ! ! !

only a month ago i was sick, now again. getting really tired of it. well, at least i still had energy to take some meaningless photo of my half closed eyes. flu season is really hitting hard this year, germany, france, holland, everyone is suffering quite a lot.

hopefully it will pass quickly because i have no patience to just lie in bed. TAIHEN ! ! !

BURNT out

i feel like i keep doing stuff and nothing gets done. i feel like a hamster who is turning in his wheel. i guess in the future when looking back i can recognize the advancement but sometimes you get so caught up in the middle of it all that it becomes so overwhelming. maybe my filter is clogged !

WALKING ON SUNSHINE

there are days when you feel like you are floating. you feel very light, almost moonwalking or like walking on sunshine because it is a very positive mood. on these days you feel like you also became a little older and wiser because the lighter feeling also is a cause of realizing something that has caused you suffering. so today is one of those days.

i am looking ahead with eyes wide open and the wind in my hair. the inner peace lets me focus on what's ahead and i am excited about the exciting events that lie ahead in the future.

also very exciting to have a new member in our journal, a very musical one : )

BLOWN AWAY

umbrellas are not much use in holland but some still try it : ) ... these days the weather is quite bad but bit typical for winter or should i say all year round. just kidding.

walking around today i saw this umbrella sticking out of the garbage can. i can picture the person using it trying to hang on to it being almost blown away by the wind. no wonder here in holland when it comes to fashion things are not too glamorous. main emphasis is functionality and practical which in holland means wind and water resistant. this goes for clothing, hair and mentality alike.

DANCING THE NIGHT AWAY

wonderful performance by NDT ( Netherlands Dance Theater - www.ndt.nl ). it is a modern dance company with world fame located in the hague. i always enjoy going there very much, more so than classical ballet or dance, although i also enjoy it.

i find it a good place to dream away and get some inspiration again. i was very impressed by the very stark and sinple stage design. too bad i couldnt take my own photos but sometimes it is good to just relax.

OUT OF AFRICA

where is the giraffe?

so funny since this was taken during my train ride early in the morning close to utrecht (about an hour from the HAGUE). i should draw a giraffe how it is wandering around the cold and flat dutch landscape wondering what happened to its warm and cozy african home.

the bird seems to enjoy the peaceful morning energy.

CARNAVAL

it is party time in holland ! well, i should say, carnaval !

i believe carnaval is originally a religious celebration, although i don't know the background for sure. i am not the researcher type so i just like to emotionally experience things without too much actual research : )))

in holland carnaval is basically only celebrated in the very south, relatively close to the german border. in germany it is also a huge event, especially in the south of germany where i was born. there it is even more intense and lasts a WHOLE WEEK. basically the south of germany is also very catholic, so there you go, very RELIGIOUS. the event itself doesn't appear too religious since it is one BIG PARTY. people dress up, there are parades and LOTS OF DRINKING.

i went to the south of holland yesterday, a city called maastricht, quite a famous city and it was my first time there, surprise ! quite an old and nice looking city so i think i will go back there on another day.

CUT OFF

walking to the supermarket from my house i saw that they cut off all the trees on the one side of the canal. looks so bare and cold. what a contrast next to the green and flowing water. on a nice sunny, cool day like today it can also mean a new beginning. i don't know too much about trees but i guess the tree will start growing new branches again now.

NEW CITY

these days, and already for a while now, everywhere you look there are construction sites in the city. basically they are trying to modernize the city and make it more attractive for shopping, culture and entertainment. the hague is known to be much more quiet and conservative than amsterdam which is the representative capital, the hague being more the political capital of holland.
