OASIS of the MIND

catsnogizaka.jpg

you worry about food and shelter
and enjoy the drops of rain
running off the morning green

you play and ignore the
ignorance around you

lucky you !

stay safe and keep playing.

LIFE

LIFE.jpg

while walking around ginza during my fashion store checks, i came across this band playing live in front of printemps as a promotion for their band and promo CD. i don't know but every time i stand in front of a band on the street while they play i feel a sort of uneasiness, some hesitation. maybe because many people feel that so that type of energy is in the air. anyway, i whipped out my camera and took some shots, i really liked their music, she has a great voice ! ... so i bought the CD.

check out their site if you want to know more

BAMBOO LOVE*

takahashi02.jpg

finally visiting one of my favorite illustrators (Nobumasa Takahashi) was a great experience. seeing how he works, feeling the energy of the studio was a unique experience. in his grandmother's old house he has his home as well as studio. of course in the middle of our meeting there was an earthquake and the old house was shaking quite a lot, at least compared to what i am used to. I think Nobumasa found it quite amusing to see a big guy like me get this scared : ))

with my Japanese skills I could pick up the core of his message but still I felt like I understood all. images communicate more than words. still, i need to go back at least once to get a better feel for the work and direction. him and some of his (professional) friends are often hiding like "moyashi" in their houses and studios fully dedicated to their work. it was also great to see his friend Fujie Mina (www.zero37.com) who is also in illustrator.

they all work independently but as a connected group. i like the feeling of this concept. image before commercialism, i like that. only this way, another dimension can be tapped.

TIME WARP

waiting_park.jpg

peaceful hour in the park while waiting to meet friends for an okonomiyaki party. it was a lot of fun and really great food. of course my favorite sweets had to follow with anko-maki and anmitsu ... well, it is quite warm so the fat will be burnt in no time : ) ...

while waiting in the park, it felt like a movie, somehow the scene was not real. was i even there ? hmmmm.....

BACK TO WORK

bigsight.jpg

a few depressions, disappointments and a long trip later i am back in business and back to work. today i attended the international fashion fair at tokyo big sight ... was quite interesting but at these big fairs one sees how shallow and not too intelligent this fashion business is....then again it is all about looks and fighting strong competition.

anyway, it was a lot of fun talking to some interesting people and getting back in the groove...

LAST MINUTE SCARE

finalscare.jpg

suitcase standing empty in the room with assorted things in front ... some clothes, some books, magazines, art etc... ready to be packed to head to japan but always a last minute nervous scare.
after a meal (inlcuding chicken liver) bought at a newly opened turkish sandwich shop i got a bit sick. a strange taste followed me for a few days and i worried about my upcoming trip. however, i think some of the food was maybe bad but added to my nervous body it seemed worse than it was.

good thing, all seems ok now. need to pack and relax next few days, accupuncture tomorrow to get the body ready for a new challenge.

next news ... from japan

FUN ADDICT

funaddict.jpg

my nephew showed me how fun can rule daily life. his gameboy and yugi-oh cards seem to be on his mind constantly and are the virtual contrast to reality. good that his parents regulate the daily use of the virtual media. 30 minutes gameboy and 30 minutes tv per day.

virtual media is like new medication: its effects haven't been tested for a long period of time. it all started in our generation and my nephew's generation is the first generation which grows up with it from when they are born. from my own experience, the virtual media tends to interfere with real life communication skills. i spend a lot of time in front of the computer and through strong use of e-mail and mobile communication i sometimes feel a bit clumsy when i have to go to a real life personal meeting. i wonder how this will effect kids who don't know any different and whose use of virtual media is not regulated ... will it become difficult for them to distinguish between real and virtual ?

for now it seems to be a lot of fun, though and the hunger for more fun seems to be endless for the young generation. then again, who can blame them, better be in a dream world.

the POWER of LETTING GO

lettinggo01.jpg

trying to get customer service (which doesn't exist)
trying to elect politicians (which don't tell the truth)
trying to be open (when others are not)
trying to follow a dream (when others follow their opposite ones)
trying to be kind (in a society of hatred)

saying YES (when you say NO)

time to let go
and relax in the haze.

PLACE OF BIRTH: FREIBURG

placeofbirth.jpg

it has been 8 years since i havent been back to the place where i was born and grew up. going back is fun, strange and sometimes not too easy either. it is difficult placing all the feelings. just a place for many people but having left at the age of 13 and only going back a few times since then brings back mixed feelings. freiburg, in the middle of the black forest is a quiet city with a nice atmosphere. feels like being on another planet far from all the big city buzz.

AT THE CARWASH

atthecarwash.jpg

if all car washes were like this maybe it were worth it to get a car. well, this car wash in germany had a special event, bikini girls washing cars on a weekend. of course only the sparkling new super expensive cars had a chance - porsche, BMW, ferrari etc...

felt like being in the u.s. where they love having events like that.
