BAMBOO LOVE*

takahashi02.jpg

finally visiting one of my favorite illustrators (Nobumasa Takahashi) was a great experience. seeing how he works, feeling the energy of the studio was a unique experience. in his grandmother's old house he has his home as well as studio. of course in the middle of our meeting there was an earthquake and the old house was shaking quite a lot, at least compared to what i am used to. I think Nobumasa found it quite amusing to see a big guy like me get this scared : ))

with my Japanese skills I could pick up the core of his message but still I felt like I understood all. images communicate more than words. still, i need to go back at least once to get a better feel for the work and direction. him and some of his (professional) friends are often hiding like "moyashi" in their houses and studios fully dedicated to their work. it was also great to see his friend Fujie Mina (www.zero37.com) who is also in illustrator.

they all work independently but as a connected group. i like the feeling of this concept. image before commercialism, i like that. only this way, another dimension can be tapped.
