FUN ADDICT

funaddict.jpg

my nephew showed me how fun can rule daily life. his gameboy and yugi-oh cards seem to be on his mind constantly and are the virtual contrast to reality. good that his parents regulate the daily use of the virtual media. 30 minutes gameboy and 30 minutes tv per day.

virtual media is like new medication: its effects haven't been tested for a long period of time. it all started in our generation and my nephew's generation is the first generation which grows up with it from when they are born. from my own experience, the virtual media tends to interfere with real life communication skills. i spend a lot of time in front of the computer and through strong use of e-mail and mobile communication i sometimes feel a bit clumsy when i have to go to a real life personal meeting. i wonder how this will effect kids who don't know any different and whose use of virtual media is not regulated ... will it become difficult for them to distinguish between real and virtual ?

for now it seems to be a lot of fun, though and the hunger for more fun seems to be endless for the young generation. then again, who can blame them, better be in a dream world.
