ZUCCA

interesting store design, very happy feeling. CABANE de ZUCCA in minami-aoyama. on top of it there is a cafe owned by the same company, dragon cafe. so interesting featuring store-design because i realize, the better the store design the less emphasis there is on the clothing. to be honest, i looked at the clothing but i dont rememeber it really. i do remember the interior design, though. IS THAT GOOD or BAD?

OLD HOMETOWN

back to my old town last night ... ryogoku. was a lot of fun reminiscing and enjoying okonomiyaki at my favorite place, KANA. run by two sisters, they are always happy to see me and talk about new and old times. i was by myself and came in right as they opened so had a lot of time to talk. both of them are really interested in fashion but running an okonomiyaki restaurant. the oldest sister is a patternmaker and younger one just very interested inn fashion, but now: OKONOMIYAKI... used to be their parent's place so they took it over.

DINNER: HOTATE. Okonomiyaki (spicy one new on the menu) + ANKO MAKI.

I also received omiyage: 1kg bag of ANKO !

FINAL HOME

meeting kosuke tsumura, designer and founder of the FINAL HOME brand was a real experience. sitting in a nice cafe in jingumae together with 2 others from from FINAL HOME, we had a relaxed conversation about fashion and life in general and the concept of the brand. it is an interesting one since the brand was created on the following notion:

"if we lose our house because of a disaster, war or unemployment, as a fasion designer, what kind of clothes would i propose - and how would they look in trouble-free time?"

using nylon and demin/cotton as the base, he goes for an interesting fashion concept, its idea dating back to a night spent in the park by kosuke tsumura himself, wrapped in newspaper. check it out if you like:

NAGAOKA #1

what a night, what a few days and what a family...

went to nagaoka with k+y for a few days to see japan's #1 firework festival. eating yakitori, edamame, kibi, yakibuta and a few other delicious things we were sitting right under the sky which for 2 hours was spitting out some colorful display of sparks. after the fireworks we were just lying there taking in the energy and waiting for mekka to empty out. it was really like MEKKA, about 350,000 people were there. in front of us 3 girls were peacefully celebrating one of their's birthday. great idea, under a firework filled sky with a nice cake and birthday song. i do have to admit, i wanted some of that cake ! : )
